Members of the SRG team were delighted to attend the RUAS Winter Fair last Thursday, 11th December at the Eikon Exhibition Centre in Lisburn. The event is one of the key dates in the agricultural calendar, bringing together farmers, industry professionals and organisations from across the region.

The fair provided an excellent opportunity for SRG to engage directly with attendees and discuss the progress made to date in the Northern Ireland Bovine Genetics Project (BGP). It also offered farmers the chance to meet SRG’s two new staff members, Hannah Martin and Lois McConaghy, who were on hand to answer questions and discuss the project in more detail.

SRG team members spoke with dairy farmers about the benefits of participation in the BGP and showcased examples of the benchmarking reports farmers will receive when they sign up to the project. These included sample dairy calving reports and milk supplier reports, which generated strong interest and valuable discussion around how the data can be used to support herd performance, breeding decisions and overall farm efficiency. Farmers were also informed that sign-up to the BGP is planned for Spring/Summer 2026, with the genomics scheme due to commence in September 2026.

SRG would like to thank RUAS for hosting a well-organised and informative event, and to everyone who took the time to visit and speak with the team. We look forward to continuing our engagement with the wider agricultural community.
