SRG has developed a User Guide to support farmers engaging with the Northern Ireland Bovine Genetics Project (BGP).
The guide provides clear, practical information on genomics, selection indexes and how to use the SRG User Portal to access herd data, record events and generate reports.
As part of the BGP, delivered in collaboration with Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) under the Sustainable Agriculture Programme (SAP), farmers will have access to subsidised genotyping and genomic evaluations to support more informed breeding and finishing decisions.
The User Guide explains:
What genomics is and how genotyping improves index reliability
Key selection tools including £PLI, Maternal and Terminal Indexes, Dairy Beef Index (DBI) and Commercial Beef Value (CBV)
How to log into and navigate the SRG User Portal
How to record liveweights, view genomic status and access herd reports such as Calving Reports
By combining high-quality genomic data with practical on-farm tools, SRG is supporting farmers to breed more efficient, profitable and sustainable cattle — unlocking genetic potential across Northern Ireland.
