About us
Sustainable Ruminant Genetics (SRG) is an industry-led, not-for-profit company established to support a more profitable, productive, and environmentally sustainable future for Northern Ireland’s farmers and the wider agri-food sector. SRG are collaborating with the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) to deliver the Bovine Genetics Project.
SRG’s core purpose is to enable farmers to make informed breeding decisions by providing access to data, evidence and practical tools, particularly through benchmarking and genotyping. By using this data and evidence, the project helps deliver permanent improvements in key traits, including:
- Improved efficiency and profitability potential
- Increased productivity
- Lower greenhouse gas emissions
- Reduced pollution potential
- Improved animal health and welfare
